Members of the radical Islamic sect, Boko Haram, on Tuesday attacked three villages in Gwoza Local Government area of Borno State, where they were repelled on Sunday and razed down the villages.
Sources said unconfirmed number of people were also killed by the insurgents.
The villages attacked included Attagara, Amuda and Ngoshe, according to sources.
It would be recalled that during the attack on Attagara on Sunday morning, the insurgents killed nine worshipers in church but suffered heavy casualties as 37 members of the outlawed sect were killed by members of the community.
But a source in Maiduguri said on Tuesday that the insurgents returned on a revenge mission to attack Attagara on Tuesday for the losses they suffered on Sunday.
The source said, “The fury was just too much as they virtually leveled every structure in the already desolate town.”
He added that many of the residents of the villages had fled the village before the insurgents came on Tuesday.
He said, “Many of our people have already fled to the top of the hill knowing that after the killing of the insurgents on Sunday, they (insurgents) would pay another visit.”
