2 Injured, 11 Rescued As Two-Storey Building Collapses In Kaduna
At least 2 people were said to be injured and trapped underground when a two-storey building collapsed in Kaduna on Thursday.
Witnesses say the incident occurred at about 2pm after occupants of the building had returned from afternoon prayers.
A rescue effort by residents had led to the evacuation of 11 victims from the rubble of which two were rushed to hospital.
As at 4pm, residents say that despite the presence of presence of officials of the Nigeria Red Cross, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the police and other rescue workers, rescue equipment were yet to be brought to the site of the incident.
According to another resident of the area, Nasir Musa, the tenants had been told to vacate the building as it had shown signs of instability
The building is said to be over 40 years old.
The State governor, Mukhtar Yero was also at the scene of the accident.
