Court Dissolved Marriage Because Wife Can't Cope With Husband's Smoking Habit

A four-year-old marriage has been dissolved by an Ilorin Area court on Tuesday over the husband’s inability to stop smoking.

Toibat Bello and Kazeem Bello had been married since 2009.

Toibat, 30, a resident of Edun Area, Ilorin, had earlier prayed the court to dissolve her marriage to Kazeem over his ‘uncontrolled smoking habit’ which is worrisome, saying her husband is addicted to smoking.

Toibat also told the court that the marriage is yet to produce any child and her husband was not providing for the needs of the family but, would rather prefer to hang out with friends.

I have tried my best to caution him but he refused to change and I cannot condone his smoking habit anymore,” she said.

On his own, Kazeem, the defendant said: “My wife knew I smoked cigarette before she agreed to marry me; so I cannot just understand why she is now complaining about my smoking habit.”

He, however, urged the court to grant the prayer of the plaintiff.

The presiding Judge, Mr Yusuf Abdulkareem, dissolved the marriage and issued a certificate of divorce to the plaintiff.

 27-Year-Old Man Rapes Mother

A 60-year-old woman has been sexually assaulted by her 27-year-old son, an Ado-Ekiti Magistrate Court in Ekiti State heard yesterday.

Akintunde Omotehinde is currently in prison custody for raping his mother, an incident which led her to be hospitalized.

Prosecutor revealed that the young man performed this evil act on the 23rd of August in Ajebamidele Area of Ado-Ekiti.

He added that on the same date, the accused assaulted and inflicted injuries on one, Isiaka Ojo, who attempted to separate him from his mother during the act.

The magistrate, Mrs Patricia Ajibade, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody, pending the DPP’s legal advice and adjourned the case till October 16.
