The Imo State police Command has recovered some improvised explosive devices and allied materials in five local government areas.

The five local government areas are Okigwe, Orlu, Ezinihite Mabaise, Ohaji/ Egbema and Mbaitoli.

Briefing journalists on Tuesday in Owerri, the State Police Commissioner, Mr. Musa Katsina said that operation tagged, “Operation Sweep” was aimed “at cleaning the entire state of explosive ordinance like bombs which were left buried during the Nigeria Civil war and other improvised explosive devices including components and weapons.”

According to him, other explosive elements were also recovered from the hands of hoodlums who he said engage them as “subduing fabriques
before the attack.”

“The strategy adopted by these hoodlums is converting what were normally used during social outings like burials to one of the deadliest arsenals,” he said.

Among the items recovered include old war time ammunitions, five primed IEDs recovered from scene of robbery at one of the new generation banks in Ezinihite Mabaise, ten live old war time bombs and six live old wartime military bombs.
