18-year-old Arrested For Robbery


The Lagos State Police Command, on Thursday, docked an 18-year-old boy, Azuka Osai, before a Yaba Magistrate Court for allegedly robbing one Faith Mpong of N40, 000 and a BlackBerry phone valued at N20,000.

The accused was charged robbery, assault and disturbance of public peace before Magistrate M.A Ladipo.

According to the police, the accused committed the offence on July 20, 2013 in the Bariga area of the state.

The police also alleged that Osai slapped the complainant publicly.

An excerpt from the charge read: “That you, Azuka Osai, m, and others at large on July 20, 2013 at about 0540hrs at No 13, Keke Street, Bariga Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial District did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause the breach of the peace by disturbing the public and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 44(1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State Nigeria, 2011.”

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and Ladipo granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

She adjourned the case to September 30, 2013 for hearing.
