Delta Government Shutdown 23 Illegal Nursing Schools
The Delta State Ministry of Health has shut down 23 illegal nursing schools allegedly involved in training of auxiliary nurses in Asaba and Sapele.
The Joint Task Force of the Ministry also arrested four persons suspected to be illegal hospital operators while others are on the run.
The State government had set up the taskforce to reposition the health sector and bring to book persons suspected of operating illegal medical institutions in the state.
The team was led by Dr Alfred Ebiakofa closed down several of the illegal nursing schools including New Patron Hospital and Maternity, where quack nurses and teachers were allegedly involved in the training of auxiliary nurses.
The operator of the centre, who claims to be a medical doctor, had employed over 16 quack tutors to train the nurses for two years, after the payment of N150,000 tuition fee.
It was also discovered that in most cases, the auxiliary nurses were issued licences to practice their career at private hospitals and clinics at cheap labor.
