Special Report: FIFA And The Ballon d'Or Controversy

When the announcement was made that that Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo, and Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Xavi Hernandez made up a 23-man shortlist for the FIFA Ballon d'Or award for 2013, it was no surprise to many football followers.

Arguably, the three have been outstanding over the years but the award seem to have lost .

Several outstanding football players have won the world best players award over the years.

Name them: German legends, Karl Heinz Rummenigge, Franz Beckenbauer, George Best (scotland), Oleg Blohkin (Russia), Luis Suarez (Spain), Johan Cruyff (Holland), Alfredo di stefano (Spain), Furanc Puskas (Hungry).

Enyeama pips Ibrahimovic to Ligue 1 Player of the Month award


Lille goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama has won the French Ligue 1 player of the month award for October, besting Paris Saint Germain stars Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani to clinch the periodic accolade for outstanding performance in the premier division.

GLO Subscribers Laments Over Influx Of Unsolicited Calls And Text Messages

Indigenous telecommunication company, Globacom is set to lose many of its loyal customers over what they termed upsurge of 'spammed' calls and text messages without considering the implications on their privacy.

FrontiersNews investigations revealed that the calls and messages emanate from various corporate bodies and business concerns to subscribers on the network and most of them are forwarded to subscribers at ungodly hours.

According to a visibly angry Mr. Samuel Onazi, "every time, you are either getting a call from GLO or getting text messages from organisations that you never had any dealings with".

Jamaica Anti-Doping Board Resigns


The Jamaican Anti-Doping Commission's (Jadco) board has resigned in the wake of a drug-testing crisis.

Concerns that Jamaica's athletes have not been tested rigorously enough led to an emergency visit from the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) this month.

The Caribbean island's sports minister Natalie Neita-Headley said the government "respected" the decision of 11 Jadco commissioners to resign.

Six Jamaican athletes have tested positive for banned substances in 2013.

They include former 100m world-record holder Asafa Powell and Sherone Simpson, an Olympic relay gold medallist at the 2004 Athens Games.

Shola Ameobi So Clever He Could Become Prime Minister, Says Manager Alan Pardew


Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi, could become Prime Minister after he retires from football because he is so clever, claims his manager, Alan Pardew.

Ameobi has become the club’s elder statesman after 14 years there and has helped to pull together a divided dressing room that last season almost cost the club its Premier League status.
