Police Prosecutor, Mr. Hyacinth Gbakor on Wednesday told a Makurdi Chief Magistrate Court how Terdoo Aleva, allegedly killing her seven months old daughter because she wanted to return to her ex-husband.
Aleva ( 42 ), a house wife is being charged with culpable homicide which is punishable by death under Section 222 of the Penal Code.
Mr. Gbakor, told the court that the woman’s husband, Terhemen Aleva of Ako-Yawe Street, Gboko in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue, had reported the incident at the Gboko Police Station on Aug ust 19 , 2013.
According to the Police Prosecutor, Mr. Aleva had accused his wife of feeding the dead child with a liquid substance locally called ‘ novan ’ or ‘ otapiapia ’ , which he claimed she bought at N20.
Mr. Gbakor explained that the baby and the woman later confessed to the crime during interrogation.
The P rosecutor also told the court that the accused had also confessed to the police that she terminated the baby’s life because she wanted to return to her former husband with whom she had three children.
Miffed by the woman’s action, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Cecilia Bakare ordered that she be remanded at the Federal Prison, Makurdi without taking her plea.
The case was a djourned to Sept. 27.
