Mermaid Fish Was Baby Octopus - Police
The Oyo State Police Command has dispelled the story of the mermaid fish said to have been found in a cartoon of ice fish saying the fish was actually a baby Octopus.
The State Police Commissioner, Mr. Mohammed Ndabawa, who spoke newsmen on Wednesday in Ibadan, urged residents of the ancient city not to panic over the incident.
The Police Commissioner had displayed the fish for all to the newsmen present in his office saying that report on the internet were mere rumour.
Activities in Ibadan had stood still for several hours on Tuesday when news filtered into town that an ice-fish had suddenly turned into a miniature mermaid.
The news soon spread like wild fire as hundreds of residents trooped to Akindele House, Isale Asaka, Foko, Ibadan, to catch a glimpse of the strange fish.
According to reports, a middle-aged woman, Ramota Salau, who sells both roasted and fried fish, had taken delivery of her stock of frozen fishes from the Gege area of the town and was sorting them out when she suddenly raised the alarm that one of the fishes had turned into what was called an ‘Omo Yemoja’ or mermaid.
He also said Ramota has been placed under protective custody for her safety and would be allowed to go home once tension within the town is doused.
