NAFDAC Uncovers Illegal Cosmetics Factory In Lagos
National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, (NAFDAC) recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against fake pharmaceutical products on Friday when it uncovered an illegal cosmetics manufacturing factory which specialises in producing fast moving cosmetics, particularly, complexion creams.
The factory had been originally licensed by NAFDAC to manufacture Floxvik Queen Helen Fair lotion with NAFDAC registration number: 02-6498 and Floxvik Queen Helen Shower Bath 1 with registration
Number 02- 7223 was caught with packages containing cosmetics labels for unregistered Olay Goat’s Milk cream, Olay carrot and Olay lightening shower cream at National Handling and Company, NAHCO, Shed, Muritala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos.
According to the Director-General of NAFDAC, Dr. Paul Orhii, the suspect, Mr. Ikechukwu Valentine Anichebe, the managing director of the company located at 6 Nnobi Street, Iyana – Iba, Ojo, Lagos has been arrested.
The NAFDAC DG said that the factory had been sealed off, pointing out that further investigations had revealed that other counterfeit products included Dr Miracles Clarifying shower cream amongst others.
”The Dr. Miracle clarifying shower Milk is purported to have been manufactured by Floxvik, Laboratories Incorporated, New York, United State of America, while the Olay Carrot Complexion was labelled to deceive people that they were made in Island but they are all manufactured in Nigeria by Mr. Ikechukwu Valentine Anichebe’s company in Ojo, Lagos.”
Also arrested in Lagos by NAFDAC is Mr. Nwachukwu Odinaka for illegal importation of counterfeit Postinor -2 tablets.
