Man Docked For Pouring Garri On Police Officer

A mild drama was said to have ensued at the Sabo Magistrate Court in Lagos when the charges for arraigning Ayo Ogori was read.

Mr. Ogori was arraigned on a two count charge of allegedly assaulting a police Officer, Isadare Abiodun, by pouring garri on him.


 Ayo Ogori,(30) was said to have committed the offence at Ebute Ilaje, Bariga area of Lagos.

The charge sheet read in part, “That you, Ayo Ogori, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district did unlawfully assault one Isadare Abiodun by pouring a substance suspected to be garri on his police uniform.”

But as the charges was been read, magistrate, Mrs. Folarin Williams, interrupted the proceeding, saying there were some inconsistencies in the charge sheet drafted by the prosecutor, Mrs. Nike Abudu.

She observed that  t he charge sheet stated that the offence was committed on July 15, 2013 which could not have been true.

The offence by Ogori b reache s section 166 of the criminal law of Lagos State Nigeria, 2011.
