Chibok burns again; as gunmen kill 51, burn Churches, houses


MAIDUGURI—Gunmen suspected to be members of Boko Haram Islamic sect, yesterday, attacked some communities in Chibok and Biu local government areas of Borno State, killing no fewer than 51 people.

Those killed were mostly Christian worshippers. Five churches including Cocin, EYN and Deeper Life Bible Church in Kwada village, about 10 kilometres from Chibok were also burnt down when the gunmen laid ambush on them during church service.

The bombers of a Bauchi hotel on Friday evening were dressed in Nigerian military uniform and shot at those who managed to survive the explosion, witnesses have said.

The explosion targeted a brothel in Bauchi metropolis of Bauchi State and claimed 10 lives while 14 others sustained injuries, the spokesperson of the police in the state, Haruna Mohammed, said.

Defendants In Cynthia Osokogu Murder Case Oppose Video Recording In Court


Defendants in the case of alleged murder of their female social media friend, Cynthia Osokogu in July 2012 have opposed the presentation of a video recording as evidence by prosecution attorneys against them.

The defendants, Okumo Nwabufo, and Olisaeloka Ezike, both alleged of complicity in the murder of the deceased, had claimed previously that they were “forced by the police to admit guilt” during their interrogation. But in the continued hearing on Friday, the prosecution, led by Mr. Ade Ipaye, presented a video recording of the interrogation in court.

Fulani attack Kaduna villages, kill 38


Kaduna— No fewer than 38 persons, including women and children, were killed on Monday night in separate attacks on Fadan Karshi and Nandu villages in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Already, Governor Ramalan Yero has condemned the attack at Fadan Karshi village, describing the act as a “provocative attempt by some unpatriotic people to cause confusion and unrest.”

Chibok Villagers Buried 26 And Kill 17 Militants, Says Vigilante


Residents of two villages in Borno State have been thrown into mourning as they buried 26 of their relations killed in an exchange of gunfire against the notorious Boko Haram militants in an attack over the weekend.

"We are in a mourning mood. We have lost our fathers, uncles, brothers, and sons. It is a big tragedy for us, and I can described the situation," said a local councilor representing Koronginim.  It is one of the two communities attacked by suspected Boko Haram members in the Chibok Local Government area in a series of weekend attacks.

Recently, a 22 years old Delta State Polytechnic student, Eguono Akpeghughu, was sentenced to death by hanging by a Warri High Court for armed robbery.

Impeachment Battle Against Nyako Shifts To Court

Buhari, Kwankwaso may clash over presidential ticket


There are indications that a former Head of State, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso, may clash over their attempt at picking the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress.

It was learnt that supporters from the defunct Congress for Progressive Change, which was one of the three parties that merged to form the APC, were already preparing for a showdown with the APC governors who, it was learnt, were planning to impose Kwankwaso as the candidate from the North-West in the contest for the opposition party’s presidential primary.

Liechtenstein returns N35.2bn Abacha loot next week -FG


The Federal Government on Thursday said it would, on June 25, receive the sum of €167m or $227m (About N35.2bn) from the Government of the Principality of Liechtenstein as part of the looted funds recovered from the family of the late Head of State, Gen. Sanni Abacha.

Fear has gripped commercial sex workers in Bayelsa State after one of them allegedly stabbed a soldier attached to the Joint Task Force (JTF), Operation Pulo Shield to death for refusing to pay for a daybreak sex romp.

Boko Haram kills 15 in Borno market


The terrorist sect, Boko Haram, on Sunday reportedly killed 15 persons, mostly traders in a local market in Daku village in the Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

The terrorists were said to have stormed the market in the early hours of Sunday, armed with AK47 rifles, Improvised Explosive Devices and petrol bombs.

Extradition of Nyanya Bomber: Monarch under probe for Boko Haram links

The Police in Imo state have arrested six suspects over the discovery of two Improvised Explosive Devices in a church in Owerri, the state capital, the Commissioner  of Police, Abdumajid Ali,  and spokesperson for the command, Andrew Enwerem, have said.

Mr. Enwerem, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, told PREMIUM TIMES the police was alerted to strange objects at the entrance of the Port Harcourt Road branch of Winners Chapel around midnight on Saturday.
